Holding Ground: Models for Artist Housing in a Time of Displacement

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Free public panel and resource fair for Affordable Housing Month, focused on concrete models for keeping low-income artists housed in the Bay Area.

"Holding Ground" gathers artist housing organizations and advocates who share a commitment to ensuring artists can remain part of the Bay Area's future: affordable housing developers, community land trusts, artist-led collectives, and arts policy advocates. Together they are exploring solutions that allow low-income artists not only to survive in the region, but to continue shaping its neighborhoods, culture, and civic life. The evening closes with a resource fair connecting attendees directly with organizations working on artist housing across the region.

The conversation will be moderated by Kyle Smeallie (he/him), Policy Director at the San Francisco Community Land Trust. Panelists include Meg Shiffler (she/her), Director of Artist Space Trust; Genie Sullivan (they/them), Collective Member at H.E.L.L.A. Co-Lab; Rashida Chase (she/her), Arts Advocate and Board Chair at Vital Arts; and Randall Kline (he/him), Executive Director of 1687 Market (Artist Hub on Market St.). Together, they bring direct experience building, financing, advocating for, and living in artist housing across the Bay Area. Arts for a Better Bay Area and SF Propel join panelists and presenters at tables to engage directly with attendees about housing and policy advocacy opportunities.
